Hallow-MEME: Pop Culture Halloween Ideas

Sunday, October 11, 2015

It’s officially that time of year. When the pumpkin patch pictures fill your social feeds and when I start getting texts asking for costume suggestions. Hello October!

Here’s my roundup of ideas for 2015.

Katy Perry Halftime Show Shark - Remember back in February when Katy Perry performed at halftime at the Super Bowl and her shark dancers stole the show? Well you can dress as a shark or go as a group of Katy+2 sharks. Target has the adult shark costumes (see below for store pic!)

Caitlyn Jenner - This one is a little risque, but i’m certain it will be a popular choice this year. Hopefully done in good taste. I’d also imagine there will be some Bruce Jenner’s or duos of Bruce + Caitlyn. To pull this off you can go for the white Vanity Fair cover look.

Donald Trump - There is always a popular politically-inspired costume and I have a feeling this year it will be The Donald. It’s pretty easy to pull off - just get a wig and wear a suit. Please don’t go the sexy Donald route.

The Pope - Fresh off the Pope’s visit to the states, I’m sure the pope will be a popular costume this year. Bonus points for baby pope! Double bonus points if you create your own pope-mobile! Triple bonus points if you could pull off some combination of the Pope and Olivia Pope!

The Dress - The dress that swept the internet back in February, is is an easy one for a duo - one of you can wear the black/blue dress and the other can don the white/gold.

Taylor Swift’s Squad - This reminds me of the years that girl groups went as the many stages of Britney Spears. Taylor Swift’s squad was everywhere this year. To pull off this costume, think Bad Blood video.

Movie Inspired - There are SO MANY movie inspired options for this year. Star Wars is going to be huge, Jurassic Park and Avengers. Oh and TV wise, I can see some Empire costumes being popular and I’d love to see some people rock some “Chanel’s” from the new show Scream Queens!

Tom Brady - As a Steelers’ fan, it pains me to suggest this one, but it’s easy. Buy a Tom Brady jersey and carry around a deflated football.

Check out my 2014 list as many of these ideas are still relevant (i.e. Clueless and Emoji’s!)

Also, I’m going to go there. Here are the costumes that I hope will be retired in 2015:

  • Minions
  • Frozen
  • Anything that is so slutty you can decipher what it is.

Saturday Shopping: You Can’t Be a Superhero Without a Cape

Saturday, October 03, 2015

I remember it like it was yesterday. Back in 2003 my family spent Christmas in Arizona.I packed for the trip like I would be lounging by the pool when in reality it was in the 70’s. Without a jacket or sweater, my sister and I went to the mall to find something to keep us warm and on that trip I purchased my first cape.

As with everything in fashion, capes are coming back in style. I LOVE the Boden one below (of course because it’s pricey), but here are some options if you are thinking of rocking that cape coat this fall.

  1. Boden
  2. J. Crew
  3. Alice + Olivia
  4. Wayf
  5. Zara
  6. Red Valentino
