Don't Ice Me Bro

There is some serious icing going on around the country. No, I’m not talking about the weather and this does not involve hockey. The latest epidemic sweeping the nation is Bros Icing Bros - a drinking game that forces people to chug a bottle of Smirnoff Ice.

Brady told me about this about a few weeks ago, but I just read about it on a New York-based blog this week, so I decided to do some detective work.

Internet research shows that no one really knows where this drinking game originated, but basically if you are presented a Smirnoff Ice at a bar, party, picnic or even on the street, someone tells you that “You’ve been iced, bro” and you are forced to drop to one knee (the bro pose) and chug the bottle.

The New York Times even did a story about “Icing” earlier this month. Apparently there was a lot of “icing” going on over Memorial Day.

Oh and if you happen to be a douche that is drinking a Smirnoff Ice by choice, someone can still “ice” you by giving you another bottle and forcing you to get on your knee and chug both.

I started writing this post on Tuesday and there was a website up to explain this phenomenon, Bros Icing Bros, but it since has been taken down. Could it have something to do with the fact that Smirnoff doesn’t want to (or isn’t legally allowed) associate itself with this drinking game!? Then again, bottles of Smirnoff Ice are flying off the shelf. Who started this? You be the judge.
